Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to Year 2! This term, we will be learning about architects.
Learning Challenge: We are going to be learning about different materials, linking in particular to materials used to build famous landmarks and architecture. We will be identifying, comparing and classifying materials, describing the properties of different materials, looking at the different uses of materials and how they can change, and carrying out scientific investigations into materials.
English: We will be reading a story called ‘Iggy Peck, Architect’, where a boy called Iggy has one great passion and that is..building! When a new teacher declares her dislike of architecture, Iggy faces a challenge. He loves building too much to give it up! We will be writing a set of instructions and a letter based on the text.
Reading: At the start of the year, your child was given a wallet containing a book to read at home and a reading record. It is important that they continue read at home every day with an adult and that comments are being written in their record. Please make sure that your child brings their book to school every day and that they change their book once they have read it.
Please also continue to encourage your child to come to early morning reading on their agreed day/s at 8:30am.
Maths: Our challenge is to know the 2, 5 and 10 times tables by the end of the year! Please support your child in learning these at home. This term we will be learning about multiplication and division.
PSHE & RE: Year 2 will continue to be taught PSHE by Miss Mallalieu and RE by Mrs Fowles.
Homework: Home/school books will still go home on Friday and are to be returned the following Tuesday. We encourage that you help your child with their homework and feel free to make any additional models etc. for your child to bring in to show the class. Please make sure you are also practising the spelling words provided at the front of their homework book.
PE: This term, Year 2 will again be doing PE with Mr Hatton on Wednesday mornings. They will also be doing Dance on Tuesday afternoons. Please ensure that your child brings the correct kit for both of these. We will also be participating in The Daily Mile every day.
Please ensure that your child is completing the weekly tasks in their Health Message booklet and that they bring it to their PE lesson every week.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to catch me at the end of the day or first thing in the morning. Thank you for your continued support!
– Miss H Perrins.
