Year 2

Hi Year 2!

I miss you all very much! I hope you’re all well and that you’re keeping yourselves busy.  I’ve been trying to keep busy too! I’ve had a go at the Joe Wicks workouts as some of the other teachers have but as I’m sure you can imagine, I’m finding it quite challenging! I’ve also had a go at a bit of baking and I’ve done some planting too!

I’ve updated the list of activities for you to try online. Remember if you can’t print them, you could write them in the book I gave you. As well as the activities I’ve suggested, please remember to keep on top of your reading and to use this time to learn your times tables and practise your spellings! I will also be setting you some ‘2dos’ on Purple Mash so make sure you check those regularly. Also feel free to send me an email on there as I would love to hear from you! You can also send me an email through the school’s email address or send letters/pictures in the post to Coppice.

It would be great if you could do a little bit of something different each day too, whether it’s helping around the house, playing games with the people at home or learning a new skill It’s a perfect opportunity to do so!

Look after yourselves and keep smiling!

Year 2

Miss Perrins

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Year 2! For this first term, we will be learning about animals including humans.

Learning Challenge:We are going to be learning about different animals and their habitats, particularly bears. We will be looking at the basic needs of animals including humans and how they are suited to their different habitats. We will also be exploring different food sources for animals and simple food chains.  We will be creating lots of artwork and exploring music linking to our topic.

English:We will be reading a story called ‘Bumblebear’, where a bear called Norman tries to fit into ‘Bee School’ in order to get more honey. Linking to the story, we will be writing a recount, a set of instructions and a character description.  We will also be learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives.

Reading: On their first day of Year 2, your child was given a wallet containing a book to read at home and a reading record, as well as a bookmark of ideas to help you support your child with their reading. It is important that they read at home every day with an adult and that comments are being written in their record.  Please make sure that your child brings their book to school every day and that they change their book once they have read it.

Please also encourage your child to come to early morning reading on their agreed day/s at 8:30am.

Maths:Our challenge is to know the 2, 5 and 10 times tables by the end of the year! Please support your child in learning these at home. For the first term, we will be looking at the place value of numbers up to 100, addition and subtraction and we will begin to learn about multiplication.

PSHE & RE: Year 2 will be taught PSHE by Miss Mallalieu and RE by Mrs Fowles.

Forest School: Over the year, children will take turns in going to Forest school with Mrs Schofield. Groups of six children will be chosen every half-term. These children will complete an outdoor learning session every week.

Homework:Home/school books will go home every Fridayand are to be returned by the following Tuesday. We encourage you to help your child with their homework and feel free to make any additional models etc. for your child to bring in to show the class. Please make sure your child is also practising the spelling words provided at the front of the homework book, which are again to be learnt by the end of the year, as well as times tables.

PE:This term, Year 2 will be doing PE with Mr Hatton on Wednesday mornings. They will also be doing Dance on Tuesday afternoons. Please ensure that your child brings the correct kit for both of these. We will also be participating in The Daily Mile.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to catch me at the end of the day or first thing in the morning. I look forward to meeting you and thank you for your continued support!
