Uniform from September 2024

Consultation was held in January-February 2024 about our draft uniform policy.

In March 2024 the Principal and governing body approved our new uniform policy, which can be found in full here in the link below as well as the summary relating to clothing and hairstyles / headwear. Parents should note that the expectation is that the new policy will be followed from September 2024. We are giving parents and families advance notice from March to support them with financing and buying new uniform for September.

Summary from the policy:

Clothing

The school uniform is compulsory, and is as follows:

Red sweatshirt or cardigan – plain or carrying the academy logo
Grey or black trousers, skirt or pinafore dress
Sensible low-heeled black shoes – See Appendix A
Plain white shirt, blouse or polo shirt under their sweatshirt or cardign
Red summer gingham dress
Any headscarves worn must be plain, and either red, white or black
PE: Plain or logo red t-shirt, black, blue or grey plain jogging bottoms / leggings or shorts. School jumper for outdoor PE. **
PE: Plain black trainers should be worn on PE days – see appendix A
Swimming: One piece bathing suit or burkini swimsuit or trunks (not shorts)

*Footwear extending above the ankle including boots should not be worn. Children should change into shoes if wearing boots in bad weather

**Children wear PE kit on their PE days – this saves time and avoids children having to get changed in class

Jewellery

For health and safety reasons and to avoid distress caused by loss of property, children should not wear any jewellery at school. The only exceptions are:

stud earrings (which must be removed at home on PE and swimming days)
a basic wristwatch (not smartwatch) for Y3-Y6 children.
A Kanthi, worn by some Hindu children is not considered to be jewellery and is acceptable.

Any jewellery worn that does not conform to these rules will be confiscated and returned to parents at the end of the school day.

Hairstyles and headwear

The school reserves the right to make a judgement on whether a pupil’s hairstyle, hair colour or headwear is inappropriate for the school environment; however, the school will ensure that any such judgements do not discriminate against any pupil by virtue of their protected characteristics. Each individual pupil’s scenario will be taken into account where any judgements on appropriateness are to be made, and parents will always have the freedom to complain via the school’s Complaints Procedures Policy.

Pupils with long hair must ensure that this does not impede their vision, cover their face, or cause a health and safety risk.

Hair bands should be made from fabric or elastic for safety reasons. They should match the school colours i.e. red or black. Small, plain clips may be used to tie hair back; bows and large clips are not allowed.
